chocolate Hi!
Can any-one give me any info on Cambridge castle in England? I've got some info from my dad, but I wouldn't mind some more.
Thanks in advance.Peter Cambridge, there is a mound in front of the Shire Hall. The earthworks are partly Norman, partly Roman construction adapted by the Normans. Raised c 1068, so it was one of the earliest Norman sites in England.
It was also raided as early as the 14th C, for building stone re the colleges. Although there remained a gatehouse in 1600 which was used as a prison.
'Castles' by Plantagenet Somerset Fry , contains a small description (1980).
There is of course much more to the city than the castle mound.
